LinkedIn video size, dimensions and aspect ratio

7 min read · Last updated September 1, 2026

LinkedIn supports horizontal, square and vertical video: 1920 by 1080 for 16:9, 1080 by 1080 for 1:1, 1080 by 1350 for 4:5 and 1080 by 1920 for 9:16 are the practical production sizes. Underneath sits an unusually broad acceptance range, and an unusually fragmented set of workflows.

The numbers, kept in their lanes

Organic member sharing currently accepts 75 KB to 5 GB, up to 15 minutes, resolutions from 256 by 144 through 4096 by 2304, ratios from 1:2.4 to 2.4:1, and 10 to 60 FPS. Pages and Career Pages differ on one number that catches teams: up to 10 minutes. Video ads are their own sheet: 3 seconds to 30 minutes, 75 KB to 500 MB, MP4 with H.264 or VP8, frame rate below 30 FPS, AAC or MPEG4 audio, SRT caption files (no custom formatting inside the file), optional JPG or PNG thumbnail up to 2 MB.

The one rule the documentation itself insists on: do not merge these workflows into a single universal specification. Broad acceptance describes what uploads, not what composes well.

Choosing the ratio

16:9 suits demos with width, interviews and presentation content, at the cost of feed height on mobile. 1:1 balances the feed with centred speakers. 4:5 is the mobile-feed workhorse, and it is LinkedIn's recommended vertical ad ratio (recommended at 720 by 900, allowed from 360 by 450 to 1080 by 1350); that is a placement-specific advertising recommendation, not a universal organic law. 9:16 (ads: recommended 720 by 1280, allowed 360 by 640 to 1080 by 1920) fits full-vertical production and cross-platform reuse, with the caveat that outside full-screen surfaces it can be displayed differently or cropped.

For ads specifically, LinkedIn recommends 15 to 30 seconds to qualify for all feed and Audience Network placements: a coverage recommendation, not a storytelling rule.

The vertical feed, stated carefully

LinkedIn has full-screen vertical video surfaces, and creators cannot currently publish directly into them. The honest formulation: publish a normal LinkedIn video with a strong vertical composition, and it may be eligible to appear in the full-screen surfaces. LinkedIn also warns that larger ratios can be cropped and wider videos adapted to the screen; compose accordingly.

Composition, captions, cross-posting

LinkedIn's own safe-zone advice is verbal and conservative: keep the top, bottom and sides free of important text, logos and key elements. The platform stacks more text layers than most (post text, headline, burned-in captions, selectable captions, CTA), so hierarchy work pays double here. Desktop demos deserve either a zoomed vertical treatment or a separate 16:9 version; an unreadable full desktop in 4:5 serves nobody.

Cross-posting from TikTok or Reels works after a destination pass: platform-specific hooks, watermarks and CTAs out, captions repositioned, and the organic-versus-sponsored question answered again, because sponsoring adds its own format, duration and file-size gates.

Where ReadyForm fits
