Free AI B-roll review checklist
Review every AI-selected or generated visual before export.
Check whether each supporting visual is relevant, accurate, appropriately timed, permitted to use and honestly represented in the complete video. AI-selected B-roll and AI-generated B-roll are not the same thing; both need review, for different reasons.
Approve B-roll according to what it communicates, not only how it looks. AI can prepare or suggest visual media; the creator remains responsible for deciding whether every visual accurately belongs in the video.

Before approving the visuals, confirm that:

The final approval question: would a reasonable viewer understand what is real, illustrative, stock or generated without being materially misled?
Close with one of four outcomes.
Log corrections per visual: the location, the current visual, the statement it supports, the issue, the required change, the preferred source and any rights or disclosure action. Common issues: irrelevant, too general, factually inaccurate, unsupported evidence, incorrect person or product or interface or location, timing, duration, caption conflict, cropping, repetition, rights unclear, disclosure required, source unknown.
- Visuals approved. Every visual verified for relevance, accuracy, rights and placement in the export.
- Approved with minor replacements. Listed swaps remain; re-check the affected scenes after replacing.
- Substantial B-roll revision required. Relevance or accuracy problems run through the visual layer. Review it scene by scene.
- Remove or rebuild the visual layer. The visuals mislead or the rights are unclear. A talking head without B-roll beats a video you cannot defend.

What is AI B-roll?
Supporting visuals that were selected, placed, adjusted or generated with AI. Selection and generation are different workflows with different risks.
What is the difference between A-roll and B-roll?
A-roll is the primary recording, usually the speaker. B-roll is the supplementary footage shown over or between it.
Should every jump cut be covered with B-roll?
No. Cover a cut only when the visual also serves the sentence.
How do I judge whether a visual is relevant?
Name the exact spoken statement it supports. If you cannot, it goes.
Can AI-selected B-roll be factually wrong?
Yes. A confident match on topic can still show the wrong product, place, era or detail.
Can I use B-roll as evidence?
No. Illustration is not proof, and generated or stock scenes must never be presented as documentation of a real event.
Is stock footage automatically licensed for commercial use?
Do not assume so. Check the licence for the specific intended use.
Do I need to disclose AI-generated visuals?
It depends on the platform and context. YouTube, for example, requires disclosure for realistic AI content in certain cases. Check the current policy.
Do Content Credentials prove a claim is true?
No. Provenance describes where media came from, not whether the claim it illustrates is accurate.
Does more B-roll improve engagement?
Not automatically. Every visual competes with the speaker; density is a choice, not a virtue.
Why review the exported visuals separately?
Rendering can shift timing, crop or compress visuals in ways the editor preview does not show.
