How to work with cuts and transitions
Every scene ends with a transition into the next one. ReadyForm picks them while making the edit; each one stays a setting you can change per scene under Transition to next scene.
The five transitions
Hard cut is the direct, invisible option and usually the right default. Whoosh is the energetic one, with the scale movement short-form is known for; use it deliberately, not everywhere. Fade softens the handover. Micro pause holds a beat of breathing room. Light flash is the most visible accent; treat it like an exclamation mark.
A transition dresses the handover; it doesn't repair it. When a cut feels wrong, check the words and the take boundaries first, then reach for a transition.
Cutting inside a scene
Cut this piece out removes a selection inside a scene. Each scene lists its internal cuts with start and end; Remove cut lifts one, Remove cuts lifts them all while keeping your scene boundaries.
Splitting and merging
Split here (or S on the timeline) splits at the playhead, snapping to a legal word boundary. Merge with next scene joins two scenes; Delete scene removes one entirely. Each piece needs at least 0.2 seconds, and the app refuses splits that would break that.
Trimming
Edit clip opens the trimmer: drag the take's start and end exactly where you want them. When there's material past the scene end, the trimmer is also how you extend it. Fine-tune gives you the same control with frame-level precision.
If something looks off
- The same transition appears everywhere. Sound effects and transition intensity follow your brand's edit rules. Adjust the brand (Sound effects: Off, Subtle, Aggressive) or change transitions per scene.
- A whoosh has no sound. Whooshes pair with sound effects from the Sounds panel. Add or replace the sound on the transition moment, or turn sound effects up in the brand's edit rules.
