How to switch to another take

When you record multiple takes, ReadyForm picks one per passage and keeps the rest. Every scene stays tied to its source: the scene card names the Selected take and counts the Alternatives, so you can always check what won and what lost.

  1. 1

    Open the scene

Select the scene in the story or on the timeline. The detail shows Selected take with the source filename, and the list of alternatives; No alternative takes means there is nothing to compare.

  2. 2

    Preview the alternatives

Play a take card to watch the raw recording. Looking and choosing are deliberately separate: clicking a card only focuses it, the play button plays it, and only the action button switches.

  3. 3

    Mind the raw-take note

While previewing, the app reminds you: "You're looking at the raw recording — the cut-out parts play too." Judge the words and delivery, not the uncut length.

  4. 4

    Switch

Choose Use this take (or Switch to this take). The scene rebuilds on the new take, and the captions catch up: "Captions catching up with the new take…".

  5. 5

    Check the boundaries

After a switch, play the scene plus its neighbours. If the new take starts a beat late, Edit clip opens the trimmer to drag the start and end exactly right.

If something looks off

  • The scene shows no alternatives. Only passages you recorded more than once have alternatives. A single recording is its own selected take.
  • After switching, a caption looks off. Captions re-transcribe after a switch. If a scene couldn't refresh, the app retries on your next edit; Re-sync with audio forces it.
