Preview versus export
One rule sorts every confusion here: your saved edits are the truth, the preview is a render of that truth, and the export always renders from the truth. A stale preview is a display issue; it never leaks into the export.
The messages, decoded
"Updating preview…" and "Applying your edits…": a fresh preview is being built. "Preview outdated" and "This video doesn't include your latest edits yet": you're watching an older render while the new one comes. "Edits are saved, re-render to apply them to the video": the saved state and the rendered file differ, and a re-render (or export) closes the gap.
Why it works this way
Rendering the full video after every keystroke would make editing unbearably slow. So the editor saves instantly, previews eagerly, and renders when it matters: for an up-to-date preview, and always for the export.
The one real conflict
Editing the same video from two places creates a genuine fork. The app catches it ("Updated elsewhere", "Updated from another session", with a change list per scene) and Load latest resolves it. Do that before exporting.
If something looks off
- I exported and an edit is missing. Check whether the edit was saved before the export (the save state showed Saved) and whether another session overwrote it (the change list names it). Both states are visible; neither is silent.
- The preview flickers between old and new. That's the swap from the stale render to the fresh one. Wait for "Preview up to date".
