Supported files and limits

Two upload doors, two sets of rules. Source uploads (the takes that become your video) are strict, because the pipeline has to transcribe and cut them. The Library (reusable media) is broader, because B-roll and overlays can be images and audio too.

Source uploads: your takes

Formats: MP4, MOV and M4V, the containers phones and cameras actually produce. Up to 20 files per video, up to 500 MB per file. Renaming a file's extension converts nothing; when a file is rejected, re-export it from the source app in one of the accepted formats.

The one content requirement: talking footage. A video whose takes contain no speech fails with "No speech found in the footage. ReadyForm needs talking footage."

Library uploads: reusable media

The Library takes the same video formats plus images (JPEG, PNG, WebP) and audio (MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG), up to 200 MB per asset. Library media is available in every video, including from the B-roll picker inside the editor.

What the app validates

Size and format are checked as you add files, so a rejection is instant, not after minutes of uploading. The server checks the actual file contents too; a mislabelled file gets caught there.

If something looks off

My camera records MKV or AVI. Convert to MP4 before uploading; every camera vendor's software and most players (HandBrake, VLC) do this without quality loss worth worrying about.
A single take is over 500 MB. Export it at a saner bitrate or split the session into takes. Half-hour continuous 4K recordings aren't short-form source material anyway; record per take.
